On August 29th at 9pm UK time, Malta will be featuring as itself in an episode from the 3rd season of the BBC comedy series “Here We Go”.
Broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer to an estimated audience of over 900,000 in the UK alone, the series continues to follow the chaotic Jessop family as they navigate new jobs, love, loss and family gatherings. The story is told through the lens of the son who is recording his family through his camcorder.
The episode sees the family holiday to Malta, where, of course, nothing goes according to plan. It showcases the culture and history of the island, with the locations of Valletta streets and Fort St Elmo featuring prominently.
Created by and starring Tom Basden (After Life), the series sees the return of the allstar cast Jim Howick (Ghosts), Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd), Alison Steadman (Gavin & Stacey), Freya Parks (This Town), Jude Morgan-Collie (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder), Tori Allen-Martin (Unforgotten), Mica Ricketts (Best Interests), Ed Kear (The Batman), and Jon Furlong (The Last Kingdom).
The BBC were encouraged to shoot in Malta by Screen Malta’s rebate scheme. “Malta gave great production value and I look forward to returning here with another shoot”, said producer Kenny Tanner who had already filmed previously in Malta.
Despite filming during extremely busy times on the island last October, the production managed to hire locals for over 70% of its 100-person crew. The producers would like to thank the Malta Film Commission for their assistance and cooperation during preparations.
